It is that time of the year again to take a moment and reflect on the academic year as the spring '10 semester comes to a close. In less than two weeks, some of our students will be writing the final chapter of their college careers and moving on to employment and/or graduate school. This truly has been a memorable year that will hold an exceptional place in their hearts and minds for many years to come. Typically, at this time of the year, graduating students are filled with many emotions, feelings, and anxieties that might overcome them, as each one of them is about to bring closure on their amazing Shepherd experience and move on with their lives. As our soon-to-be alumni are getting ready to return home or begin their next adventure, they will not only take the lifelong friendships made but they will take away much more: the great things that the Shepherd experience has taught them--self-realization, confidence, leadership, teamwork, and negotiation skills. As I reflect, I am confident that our students are prepared to encounter the ever-changing world upon graduation. They are well-equipped to succeed in their chosen career or profession and are able to adapt--and flourish--with integrity no matter the uncertainties that lie ahead. "I have learned this at least by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dream, and endeavors to live the life which he had imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours." -- Henry David Thoreau Kimberly Scranage |
