Acalog Web Catalog Project Update
The pace is picking up for the conversion of our print catalog to a fully-interactive online catalog! Our project kick-off meeting was on October 30. Between now and the end of January 2010, Digital Architecture will be working with the Acalog team to organize, integrate, and convert our print resource to an interactive Web-based document.
Shepherd's team working through this initial conversion project:
Tim Haines, Web Manager, External Affairs
Dr. Richard Helldobler, Vice President for Academic Affairs
Valerie Owens, Executive Director for External Affairs
Kimberly Scranage, Vice President for Enrollment Management
Tracy Seffers, Registrar
Katie Young, Editorial Assistant, External Affairs
Some changes you will see (beyond the obvious online vs. print interface):
- Annual catalogs (rather than 2-year w/supplement).
- A single university catalog encompassing both undergraduate and graduate programs, policies, and courses.
- Dynamic linkage to the live schedule of classes information to see when courses are available for registration in a future term.
- An online system for moving curricular changes through the various levels of institutional approvals and edits directly into a future catalog database.
- The ability to create personal online "portfolios" of the essential catalog elements that you need to see and use on a routine basis--and convert them to individualized PDF or print resources as needed.
The anticipated launch date for our current catalog is February 2010, with edits for the 2010-2011 catalog due at the usual time (mid-late spring). The plan is to have a very limited print run of 2010-2011 catalogs for faculty and staff only.
