Retention Steering Committee
At its June 2009, the Retention Steering Committee came up with the following set of target areas/action plans to begin work on in the fall semester:
- Expanding the early alert process--A subcommittee is already working to streamline this process so that we are able to target the right students in a timely fashion
- Exploring use Philosophy 100 as a general "orientation" class that may eventually be required of all students. We will contact other schools to get an idea of success rates and will continue to explore our own success rates with Philosophy 199, and now Philosophy 100 in its current structure.
- Researching pre-college programs that bring in first-year students to get a head start on their first year. Again we will contact other schools to get an idea of their programs, structures, success rates, etc.
- Developing a parents organization to get parents more involved in programming, fundraising, etc. We plan to explore the Web, contact other schools, and partner with other campus departments as we work on this area.
