Commencement 2009 Shepherd graduated 683 students in 2008-09, up from 668 in 2007-08. Commencement 2009 saw 462 of those graduates walking across the stage in their gorgeous new regalia: http://www.shepherd.edu/university/enrollment/v9/regalia.html This commencement ceremony was also the first that we broadcast live over the Internet by streaming video. Many thanks to External Affairs, IT Services Networking, Media Services, and the Commencement Committee for pursuing this option for friends and family who were unable to attend. Around 40 people logged on--but another 350 watched the Internet feed from our overflow seating in the Frank Center Theater! Online participants were surveyed after the event, and the response was overwhelmingly positive and appreciative. Here are some of the comments: I think this is a great idea--we are grandparents of the graduate and were supposed to go but had car trouble. We were very disappointed to miss exactly the time her diploma was awarded but at least we were able to view some of the ceremony. Thank you so much for doing this. My son, deployed to Iraq, was able to watch his brother graduate! Bless you! It was great being able to see the graduation online since there weren't enough tickets for me to attend in person. I felt like I got a better view of the graduate accepting her diploma than the family members that were there. It was great! Thanks for doing that for friends and family not able to attend. What a wonderful service of providing access to graduation through the Internet! It was really great that it was available online since there are only so many tickets given out to the graduates and alot of times more people would like to go. I couldn't go due to not enough tickets so I was ecstatic to be able to watch in online. Thank you so much and please keep doing it! I think it was a great idea and hope you do it in future years. This was the only way that all 350 people in the Frank Center got to see graduation! This could not have been better timed in our needs. Thanks! |
