As with tradition at the opening of the school year, enrollment management prepares and publishes its first newsletter of the academic year. For me it is a special time when I get to talk and reflect with the campus on the year that has passed and begin to talk with you about what lies ahead. When I look back over the past year, it is with gratitude and great pride in our shared accomplishments. Some of these accomplishments can be seen by looking at the various recognitions that have been garnered over the past year. ![]() "One of 26 institutions that make up the the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. These institutions are distinguished by their commitment to provide a superior education to undergraduate students." ![]() "For the fifth year in a row, Shepherd University has been named one of the best colleges and universities in the southeast ." ![]() "Shepherd University was named the top-ranked West Virginia public baccalaureate institution for the second year, earning the 40th spot among Best Baccalaureate Colleges in the South in the 2010 edition of America's Best Colleges, published by U.S. News Media Group." The achievements of the last year are a reflection of the continual work of our students, dedicated faculty, staff, and administration. I salute all those who continue to shape our prestigious reputation and extend a welcome to those who will have the opportunity to shape our future. We have much to be grateful for in the past year and so much more to look forward to in the year ahead. There will be challenges that are unforeseen. As Napoleon Hill once said, "the strongest oak tree of the forest is not the one that is protected from the storm and hidden from the sun. It's the one that stands in the open where it is compelled to struggle for its existence against the winds and rains and the scorching sun." I know with our institutional fervor, we will rise to meet challenges. This is a great institution and I am privileged to be able to work with such remarkable people. Enjoy the first edition of the 2009-10 Enrollment Management Newsletter!
