Greetings from Enrollment Management! We are pleased to introduce our new electronic newsletter, which will be used to disseminate information about the activities of the offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Registrar. I would like to thank Randy Friend, associate director of admissions, for serving as the newsletter coordinator.
We are proud to announce that Sandra Oerly-Bennett has joined us as director of financial aid, following the retirement of Libby Sturm. Sandra comes to Shepherd from the position of director of financial aid at Fairmont State University. Other new Financial Aid Office staff members are Joyce Cabral, associate director of financial aid; Courtney Russell, information systems specialist; and Peggy Cales and Wendy Hanback, program assistants. Please join us in welcoming these new members of the Shepherd community.
It appears that our fall enrollment will be higher than last fall's enrollment was. While the number of continuing students is up slightly, the real increase is in our new student enrollment--about 6 percent over last year. Congratulations to Kim Scranage and the Admissions Office staff on this outstanding success! A preliminary analysis of the data shows that this year's entering class is approximately half in-state residents and half out-of-state residents, and 46 percent of freshmen and transfers are living in the residence halls this fall, compared to 25 percent last fall. Additional data will be presented after the fall semester begins.
Many of you will be joining us as members of the Enrollment Management Committee, the Admissions Advisory Committee, or the Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee, and we look forward to working collaboratively with you. Meanwhile, we will try to keep you informed through this newsletter of events, deadlines, and activities in our offices. We appreciate all that you do in support of the recruitment and retention of students. Best wishes for a productive and exciting academic year!
