What is Rush?
The term "rush" is used to
describe the process of member selection that all fraternities go through. This somewhat resembles an interview process whereby an individual can learn more about Theta Xi while our fraternity learns more about the individual. On a typical basis, the process involves several meetings (Info Nights/Smokers) and, if the prospective member is qualified, it can result in an offer of a bid for associate membership into Theta Xi Fraternity.
What kind of activities will I have the opportunity to experience?
Theta Xi Fraternity at Shepherd
College offers all activities that its members take part in. Many of
us play sports, participate in intramurals such as football, volleyball, basketball, and soccer, play paintball,
shoot pool or just hang out together. Whatever activity it may be, there is always something going on if you want to hang out. The Fraternity also plans larger trips such as whitewater rafting, hiking, retreats, and road trips to other college campuses such as Virginia Tech and West Virginia Wesleyan to visit other chapters of Theta Xi. We also provide opportunities to meet other people through interaction with the other Greek organizations and the community in general. Theta Xi has several socials and mixers planned with the sororities and the fraternities on campus throughout the semester.
Will I be hazed or mistreated at Theta Xi?
Absolutely NOT! Theta Xi has a short, no longer than 8 week, associate member period. This gives a chance for new members to feel, act, and live as fully initiated brothers. We do not haze or mistreat our initiated brothers, so why would we haze or mistreat the associate members? You are considered an equal from day one. The only exception is that associate members are not allowed to participate in ritual meetings.
What will be expected of me as a member?
We expect that every member try his best to advance the ideals and prosperity of the fraternity to the best of his abilities. This includes (but is not limited to) attending colony meetings, striving to maintain a 2.5 or above GPA, being active on campus in other organizations, respecting other members, recruiting more good men to the fraternity, and supporting Theta Xi as an alumni after their graduation.
What about academics?
Our fraternity was founded upon
its members achieving the highest academic standards. We offer test
files, study sessions, and the experience of older members who can
help
the younger brothers with schedules. Of course, these are the intangibles of having people form study groups, go to the library with, and borrow a calculator when you can't find yours. You must have a 2.0 GPA or above to RUSH Theta Xi and must maintain above a 2.0 GPA to remain active once you are a brother.
