Shepherd University has teamed-up with Rave Wireless Inc. to offer a text-messaging notification system. Emergency communications from the University, including inclement weather announcements, will be sent as a text message and/or email to those who opt into the plan. Please note that school closures and emergency announcements will be the only notices sent to participants at this time.

digit dialing for local numbers:

West Virginia has exhausted all available phone numbers under the 304 area code.  The West Virginia Public Service Commission has established the overlay method for implementing the new Area Code of 681.  In the Overlay system, all existing telephone numbers in the state remain unchanged and new telephone numbers in the state will be assigned the new area code. However, all local calls will require the caller to use ten-digit dialing.  The term ten-digit dialing is used to describe the requirement that a user dial the 304 or 681 area code and the seven-digit telephone number for local calls.  NOTE:  You will still be required to dial the 1+ 10 digits for any calls that are not considered local.
