Located in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Shepherd University is a state-supported college established in 1871 which has a strong liberal arts emphasis in the curriculum. Shepherd offers its 4,600 students more than 70 programs of study, including bachelor’s and master's degree programs. Educational opportunities outside of the classroom, such as internships, cooperative education assignments, and student teaching positions, are also available at Shepherd. Tuition for 2008-2009 is $4,900 for residents of West Virginia and $12,812 for students from other states. Room and board charges are about $7,000.
