in West Virginia

The Governor’s HealthyWV Strategic Plan to continue moving West Virginia forward on our path to a healthier future includes an e-Prescribing initiative which is an important component of more comprehensive efforts to implement eHealth throughout the state. Current plans call for the state to continue building on existing public/private sector collaborative efforts to develop and implement e-Prescribing in West Virginia.

e-Prescribing allows physicians to order prescriptions through computers instead of using a paper-based prescriptions (Rx) with handwritten signatures, thereby reducing medical errors, improving patient safety, and helping to eliminate duplication of effort and prescriptions. Efforts continue to remove barriers to e-Prescribing in West Virginia and develop a statewide implementation plan involving both public and private partners.
