VistA in West Virginia

The following are brief descriptions of some of the key projects and activities involving the development and implementation of the ‘open source’ VistA electronic health record (EHR) system in West Virginia.

*VistA includes derivative systems such as RPMS, CHCS, & MEDLYNKS.

· Community Health Network of West Virginia developed and is deploying the MedLynks / RPMS system. MedLynks is already implemented in over 30 Community Clinic sites in West Virginia.

· West Virginia has implemented the MedSphere Open VistA system in all 7 State Hospitals.

· U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs - 4 VA Hospitals, 8 Outpatient Clinics, and 4 Nursing Homes in West Virginia use the VA VistA system.

· West Virginia State Veterans Homes have access to the VA VistA System.

· CHCS is used by all DoD Military Inpatient Treatment Facilities. CHCS is a derivative of the VA VistA system.

· RPMS is used by all Indian Health Service hospitals and clinics. RPMS is also a derivative of the VA VistA system.

· Shepherd University Research Corporation (SURC) is collaborating on VistA, MedLynks, and Pacific Hui OpenVistA system projects. Shepherd University is planning to implement MedLynks in its Student Health Center.

· KRM Associates Inc. and the Community Health Network of WV are two West Virginia based companies collaborating on continued development, implementation, and support for MedLynks, RPMS, and VistA systems.

· West Virginia Medical Institute (WVMI) is the prime contractor for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) External Peer Review Program (EPRP). They utilize data from the VA VistA system to do audits and peer reviews in support of VA quality improvement efforts across the country.
