SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University students participating in the 2013 Homecoming Spirit Stick Competition collected more than 1,100 pounds of food for Jefferson County families in need.

Students competed as teams and sought donations throughout the community which were delivered to the Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry in Charles Town October 1.

Alpha Sigma Tau sorority won with its collection of more than 300 pounds of donated food.

In addition to collecting community donations, many teams contributed their own funds for much-needed pantry staples including peanut butter, pasta sauce, canned vegetables and soups, potatoes, rice, and other essentials.

The JCCM Food Pantry solicits, stores, and distributes food for the community.
