Speak series to feature tales from Japan on April 10

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Speak Story Series, part of Shepherd University’s Appalachian Studies Program, will present “RAGUKO: Comical Tales from Japan” with storyteller Motoko on April 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Reynolds Hall.

Motoko, the recipient of the National Storytelling Network’s 2017 Circle of Excellence Award, has performed professionally since 1993. Her repertoire includes Asian folktales, Rakugo and Zen stories, mime vignettes, and personal tales from her childhood in Osaka and as an immigrant to the U.S. Motoko has appeared on PBS’ Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood and toured Miyazaki, Japan, as part of CarnegieKids in Miyazaki Project, sponsored by Carnegie Hall.

Admission is $12 at the door, with express entry for season ticket holders, and free for Shepherd students with a valid Rambler ID. Speak is for adult audiences. Mature youth are allowed at a guardian’s discretion. For more information, visit info@speakstoryseries.com.
