Student Organization and Honor Society
The Sociology Club sponsors a variety of student activities such as guest lectures, social gatherings, and field trips. Alpha Kappa Delta, sociology's international honor society, has an active chapter on campus and from time to time sponsors workshops, seminars, and colloquia.

Conference Participation
Both students and faculty are active participants at professional conferences. In the fall they normally present papers at the West Virginia State Sociological Association meeting. Each spring students from several disciplines present papers at the Mid-Atlantic Undergraduate Social Research Conference which is rotated among regional colleges and universities. Shepherd has hosted the event three times since the first meeting in 1980. The late V.J. Brown, Ph.D., was one of the co-founders of the Mid-Atlantic Conference.
