For completeing a major in Sociology
Freshman Sophomore
Junior Senior
In order to graduate for Shepherd University with a Major in
Sociology, a minimum of 128 semester hours must be completed.
This entails 47 hours under general liberal arts requirements
and 36 hours in under the sociology curriculum, and 21 semester
hours of free electives selected from any college wide 300 and
400 level course offerings. The 47 general liberal arts requirements
should be completed during the freshman and sophomore year. It
is important to note, as indicated below, that sociology majors
must take either ACFN 090 (basic algebra) or math 105 (algebra)
as preparation for math 314 (statistics). Statistics is required
by the sociology program and will meet the math requirement for
shepherd graduation in general studies. If students are sufficiently
prepared to mathematics to take statistics (math 314), they must
replace the basic algebra or algebra credit hours. To insure 128
credit hours for graduation, a computer course upper level elective
is recommended.
