SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Rude Mechanicals Medieval and Renaissance Players will hold auditions for its spring production, three plays by Shepherd University creative writing students, on Wednesday, January 14, and Thursday, January 15, from 8-10 p.m. in Reynolds Hall.
The plays were written by LaShawn Tolson of Washington, D.C., Alex Hale of Falling Waters, and Rachel Witter of Martinsburg, as part of a fall semester course in drama writing taught by Dr. Carrie Messenger, assistant professor of English.
In Tolson’s “The Poet and the Muse,” Shakespearean characters come to life in the world of the 21st century. Hale’s “What Makes a Man” explores traditional and not-so-traditional concepts of masculinity. Witter’s play, “The Disappearance of Ruby Young,” explores the consequences of catfishing, which is creating a false online persona in order to deceive someone.
Both students and community members are welcome to audition. Multiple large and small roles are available, for both men and women, and a diverse cast is highly desirable. Tech crew, dancers, singers, musicians, video artists, and costume designers are also needed. Shepherd University students will earn three credits for participating.
