SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Undergraduate out-of-state students attending Shepherd University will see their tuition and fees remain the same for the 2015-16 academic year.
Shepherd’s Board of Governors approved no tuition increase for undergraduate out-of-state students and a 3.96 percent increase for undergraduate in-state students at its November 13 meeting. The academic year, which begins August 2015, will see undergraduate out-of-state tuition remaining at 2014 levels at $8,314 per semester while undergraduate in-state tuition will rise from $3,285 to $3,415 per semester.
“Shepherd is committed to providing a quality education at an affordable price,” said Dr. Shari Payne, vice president for enrollment management. “Despite recent declines in state funding, the university’s tuition remains well below the national average for public institutions. According to the Trends in College Pricing 2014, public, four-year colleges and universities charge in-state students an average of $4,570 per semester and out-of-state students an average of $11,480 per semester.”
The board also approved an average increase in room rates of 2.19 percent and an average increase of 1.97 percent in meal plans.
In other business, Bridget Cohee was sworn in as a new board member. She is the managing member of the Steptoe & Johnson law office in Martinsburg, where she has practiced law for 14 years. Cohee served nine years as a member of Shepherd’s Contemporary American Theater Festival Board of Trustees and is a member of the CATF’s honorary board.
Cohee earned a J.D. and an M.Ed. from the University of Kentucky and a B.S. from Mt. St. Mary’s University. She was named to the Generation Next 40 Under 40 as well as to the Best Lawyers of America and West Virginia Top Lawyers.
She served as a member of the United Way of the Eastern Panhandle and was involved with UWEP’s Promised Neighborhood Initiative. Her service to the community has been recognized by the Berkeley County Council through its Excellence in Community Service award and the Marvin Yurish Award for Excellence in Community Service.
