SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University is accepting applications from local families interested in hosting international students while they are enrolled at Shepherd. Potential host families will go through an application process designed to match them with students who have similar interests. Two training sessions are scheduled. The first will take place on Wednesday, July 25, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and the second on Tuesday, July 31, from 9-10 a.m. The deadline for applying to become a host family is Friday, July 20.

Dr. Lois Jarman, director of international affairs, said the students will live on campus, but each host family will serve as a local contact and is asked to invite the students home, take them places like amusement parks, historical sites, and shopping, and spend the holidays with them. Jarman said the program is open to anyone willing to make an international student feel welcome and hopes to give the host families and the students an opportunity to learn about each other’s countries and culture.

For more information, contact Jarman at 304-876-5805 or ljarman@shepherd.edu.
