SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Department of Computer Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering is hosting one of five regional qualifying events for this year’s statewide First Lego League robotics competition on Saturday, November 22, from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the Student Center.

Members of Shepherd’s Robotics Club will help run the event and serve as judges. The tournament, which is for students ages 9-14, is sponsored by the West Virginia Space Grant Consortium and the NASA IV and V Robotics Alliance Project with support from a private donor, the Bharti family.

Todd Ensign, NASA IV and V Educator Resource Center program manager, said 12 teams are expected to compete. The top 40-50 percent of those teams will be offered a spot at the state tournament on December 6 at Fairmont State University.
