CONSTITUTION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATION OF SHEPHERD COLLEGE

Article I: Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to foster a better understanding of our place in the environment and how we can better care for this environment.

Article II: Membership

Section 1 Membership shall be open to all Shepherd College Citizens

Section 2 The Environmental Organization of Shepherd College will not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, sexual orientation, race, religion, nationality, or handicap.

Section 3 Members are defined as those Shepherd College Citizens who have paid dues established by the Executive Board.

Article III: Executive Board

3.01 The Executive Board is composed of four elected officers, the Faculty/Staff advisor, and a Student Government Association Representative.

3.02 The elected officers of this organization shall be:

  a. President
  b. Vice President
  c. Secretary
  d. Treasurer

3.03 The faculty/staff advisor for this organization shall be determined on an annual basis by the Executive Committee

3.04 The Student Government Association Representative will be the outgoing President of the Organization if possible. If not, the President can nominate an individual that members of the Organization can vote on

Article IV: Duties of the Officers

4.01 The duties of the President shall include:

  a. calling and presiding over all meetings of the organization
  b. appointing standing and special committees
  c. supervising officer elections
  d. representing the organization at official functions or as appropriate
  e. possessing the authority to call for a members-only vote at discretion
  f. nominating anyone to sit on the Executive Board, who then will be voted on by members

4.02 The duties of the Vice President shall include:

  a. performing the duties of the President in the absence of the President
  b. presiding over appointed committees and maintaining a close working relationship with committee chairs

4.03 The duties of the Secretary shall include:

  a. maintaining accurate minutes, records, and correspondence for the Organization   b. handling all publicity and other communications as necessary

4.04 The duties of the Treasurer shall include:

  a. maintaining accurate records of all revenues and expenditures   b. developing a budget, receiving all money, and paying all debts

4.05 The duties of the Student Government Association Representative include representing the Organization at SGA meetings.

Article V: Meetings

5.01 The regular meeting of the Organization shall be determined within two weeks of the beginning of each semester so as to be convenient to the majority of members.

5.02 Special meetings may be called by the President or a Committee, of no less than three elected Officers, or shall be called upon written request of ten members of the Organization. The purpose of the meeting shall be stated in the notice and three days' notice shall be given, except in the cases of emergency.

Article VI: Voting Procedures

6.01 Voting shall be based on a majority rule, except in cases of a constitutional amendment.

6.02 At the President's discretion a request for a membership only vote can be called for at any given time.

Article VII: Amendments

7.01 Proposals for amendment to the constitution or by-laws shall be announced at a regular meeting and posted two weeks prior to consideration.

7.02 A 2/3 favorable vote of those members of the Organization present at a regular meeting shall be required to ratify an amendment to the constitution or by laws.
