The Shepherd University Writing Center employs tutors who have completed the training course, English 377: Peer Tutoring and Composition Theory, which is offered every fall semester.

We try to recruit tutors who are strong writers from a variety of majors and minors.  They work anywhere from 1 hour to 8 hours per week.

During Fall 2005, our tutors include the following Shepherd University students, who are listed by seniority:

Ezekiel Holt: History/Sociology Double Major -- LEAD TUTOR
Referred to as “the liberal arts guru,” by Ben Spiker, Ezekiel tutors History, Sociology, and Writing. In his spare time, he carefully raises his two cats and is sometime called, “The Cat Whisperer.”

Ben Spiker: English Major
Ben has consistently impressed his professors with his deft grasp of literary criticism and his well groomed beard. He is a very approachable tutor in that “young, red bearded, stop-motion Santa Claus” sort of way.

Stephanie Rinehart: English Major
Stephanie is an analytical bundle of joy. Easily one of Shepherd’s top English majors, she excels at making composition accessible to nonmajors and majors alike.

Vance Collings: English Education
Vance is a tutor both highly qualified and very personable. Aside from his posted times, Vance can often be found at the front desk around noon. He frequently dresses like a chicken.

Professor Austin is a brilliant ball of energy whom is beloved by all who meet her. She deftly maneuvers the Shepherd University Writing Center through each tumultuous semester while keeping a firm grasp on American Idol results. Her recent favorite was Elliott Yamin.
