Resources

The Shepherd University writing center offers a variety of resources for students as well as teachers.

We have electronic copies of many of our handouts available. They are all in HTML format, and can be downloaded to your computer or printed out for your convenience. We also have pages that provide help with using the EBSCO and MLA databases, tips for using Scarborough Library, and help with effectively using, commenting on, and documenting quotations.

Handouts

Tutors often will give handouts to students they work with. Electronic versions of many of these handouts are found below:

Structure of an Academic Essay - This handout attempts to represent a good stucture for an argument in a concrete way that is easily accessible for students who struggle with organization and focus.

MLA Documentation - A demonstration of the most common types of works documented in a Works Cited page for an MLA style essay.

Chicago Documentation - A demonstration of the most common types of citations in a bibliography for a Turabian or Chicago Manual of Style essay.

APA Documentation - A demonstration of the most common types of citations used when writing in the APA style.

Quotations - Gudelines for appropriately using and documenting quotations in MLA format

Basic Literary Terms
Refer to this handout as needed to gain some familiarity with literary terms commonly used in literature courses.
