What is Community Service?
Community Service
Individual students, academic clubs, social organizations, Greeks, resident assistants and leaders of special projects utilize the SCS office for assistance with community service projects. The reasons for initiating and/or participating in these projects are many, and include fulfilling organizational or scholarship requirements, gaining experience in a particular field of study, or simply a desiring to make a difference.
Campus wide service initiatives include Relay For Life to benefit the American Cancer Society, holiday events such as the Adopt-a-Family program, assisting and supporting the work of the Salvation Army, and food drives for the hungry and elderly. The Annual New Student Orientation Day of Service is held each August offering a day of service in the community for all incoming new students. The Office also advises the Shepherd University Campus Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and sponsors and coordinates the Alternative Spring Break trip offering students an opportunity to participate in a unique service-related experience during their traditional Spring Break.
