Shepherd University is a state institution situated on 323 scenic acres in Shepherdstown - West Virginia's oldest settlement. Located in the heart of the historic Shenandoah Valley on the banks of the Potomac River, Shepherdstown is conveniently located to the metropolitan areas of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD and is easily accessible from other parts of West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. This area of the Shenandoah Valley is rich in history and sights such as Harpers Ferry, the C&O Canal National Park, and Antietam National Battlefield are within a short pleasant drive.
Shepherd's conference season begins the first of June and runs through the end of July. Small conference groups not requiring housing and meetings can sometimes be accommodated on weekends during the academic year, depending upon available space. The conference office can provide your group or organization with individualized conference and meeting services. Our staff is available to help plan, schedule and facilitate your meeting. We have a friendly, competent staff, comfortable and attractive meeting facilities, and quality food service at a reasonable cost.
Traditional Style: Approximately 800 beds in traditional residence settings. Residence Hall rooms are double occupancy with common baths located in each wing. Both air conditioned and non air conditioned rooms are available.(Residence Halls can be seen here)
Suite Style: Approximately 120 beds in a 2 bedroom suite style arrangement with a shared bathroom and living room.
Most meeting rooms are located in the Student Center. The Storer Ballroom can seat up to 350 and has a stage, dimmable lighting, and sound system. There are three conference rooms which seat up to 50 people and three smaller meeting rooms. The Ram's Den is a multi-purpose room which can be utilized for meeting space, banquets, dances, special activities, etc. The Ram's Den is located on the 1st floor of the Student Center. The Fireside Bistro is open from Monday through Thursday (7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) and Friday (7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) and offers a variety of coffee, bagels, and deli sandwiches. Additional meeting rooms are located in adjacent classroom buildings on a space available basis. A more formal theater, with seating for approximately 200, is also available on a space available basis. There is also an outdoor amphitheater with a stage. For larger groups, the Butcher Center Athletic Arena is available for rental during specified periods.
Indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, including a wellness center with 5 class rooms, large gym with wood floor, and bleacher practice areas, swimming pool, wellness center, tennis courts, and athletic fields, are available for conference guests during specified times as contracted.
Food services are provided by the Dining Services and its catering department. Meals can range from a very simple, casual buffet to an elegant, sit down, served dinner. The university dining hall is available for all meals or special catered meals can be provided. Our staff can provide banquets, receptions, or coffee service according to the requirements of your program and budget.
Our Conference Coordinator will be glad to consult with you concerning the cost of services required to meet the particular needs of your group. Early planning will allow you to enjoy a well-planned, cost efficient conference. Our conference staff can also provide information about local attractions and suggest outside excursions for members of your group.
