Leadership Development in the Student Center

The Shepherd University Student Center recognizes and values student leadership and leadership development opportunities. Therefore, we design our campus programming to supplement and enhance those experiences. In addition to the programs, clubs and organizations, classroom experiences, and other opportunities we provide to our students, our Leadership program is a great place to tie it all together.

Student Clubs and Organizations

Student learning is central to the culture of Shepherd University both inside and outside the classroom. Recognized organizations and clubs are an important part of this education since they allow students to gain leadership skills, to explore their values, and to begin laying the foundation for their professional careers. Adding to the richness of our campus culture, club and organizations, give students the opportunity to explore their own interests. Understanding the importance of diversity, we continue to work to engage and support a wide range of multi-cultural, academic, professional, Greek, social, philanthropic, political, cultural, recreational, spiritual, and athletic organizations.

Leadership Lounge

Leadership Lounge is a series of programs sponsored by the Student Center that addresses hot topics and issues important to our students.

*...and Many More!

Student Leadership Conference

Our annual Leadership Conference is one of Shepherd’s oldest traditions, going back two decades! Every fall, students from every corner of the campus meet in the Student Center for a day full of informational and interactive sessions, and the tastiest meal of the year.

This year’s conference will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 from 8:15 am to 3:30 pm. This event is free and open to all Shepherd students. For more information, contact Rachael Meads.

The A-Team

Members of Shepherd’s Peer Leadership Orientation Training Program (better known as the “A-TEAM”) are returning Shepherd students who offer the first glimpse of college life for incoming first-year students. Their roles include acting as a role model and resource person, conducting icebreakers, creating and performing informative skits, assisting faculty advisors, helping students to build class schedules, decorating the residence halls, and answering questions. A-Team members are highly motivated students who excel both academically and socially and are among the most involved and hard-working students on campus. Selection to the A-Team is a unique honor and a rewarding opportunity for personal and professional growth.

Time Commitment: All A-Team members will be expected to live in their assigned room on campus and dedicate themselves solely to this job (no other commitments, classes, or duties) from Tuesday, June 23-Saturday, July 18, 2009 (with days off on June 28, July 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, & 15) AND/OR from August 6 through 15, 2009 (with day off on August 9).
