The Student Center Mission Statement

The Shepherd University Student Center, through its services, programs, and dynamic facilities, provides a welcoming and inclusive sense of place where all commuter and resident students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors can come together to exchange diverse ideas.

The Student Center fosters student involvement, community, and learning through recreational activities, cultural events, social programming, and leadership initiatives.

Please be informed that beginning on Monday, November 23, 2009 through Sunday, January 10, 2010, The Student Center Elevator will not be available for use due to a complete replacement of all systems associated with the installation of the new elevator. This $155,000 project will include major ADA upgrades and safety requirements to meet state and federally mandated laws and codes. In addition the Storer Ballroom on the 3rd floor will not be available due to $45,000 ADA upgrades to the 3rd floor restrooms.

Wheelchair access to the Ground Floor will be through existing doors to the bookstore, SGA, and Rambler Card Offices while access to the Ram’s Den, Fireside Bistro, Information Center, Program Board and Student Affairs Offices will be via the driveway, closest to Stutzman-Slonaker, and the Patio glass door entrance. We will have signage placed in appropriate locations giving directions to the ADA entrance.

The 2nd Floor will not be accessible by elevator during the above dates. The Multicultural/Disability Support and Community Services Offices can make arrangements to meet those needing their services by contacting them directly at 304 876-5453 (Multicultural/Disability) and 304 876-5402(Community Services).

There will be no ADA accessible restrooms located in the Student Center during the dates listed above. Please make arrangements to use ADA restrooms located in the Scarborough Library or other nearby academic buildings.

As with any major project, there may be delays and there will be construction noise and debris. We apologize for any inconvenience this improvement might cause you. We will look forward to working with you to avoid any major issues associated with this project.

Sincerely,
Donald T. Rohel
