FAQ

What happens at Orientation?

The August Orientation program is different from the July Advisement and Registration program. These sessions feature internationally recognized speakers as well as Shepherd professional staff who will address Shepherd’s community expectations and policies as well as issues of cultural diversity, academic success, safety, and wellness.

Why should I attend?

Students will have a great time meeting others during Orientation, acquiring information not covered in July, and seeing what extraordinary offerings Shepherd presents throughout the year. We urge you to take advantage of the optional social events during Orientation. Those who attend these events are rewarded with new friendships, reduced stress levels, and lots of laughter.

Upon the completion of Orientation, you will face both opportunities and challenges. You will have the freedom to set your own schedule. You will make choices and be held responsible for the consequences. Attending Orientation is vital to your journey since it introduces you to the resources and support systems available to you as well as the expectations of the campus community.

Who should attend?

  • All first year students, transfer students with less than 26 credits, and new residential students are required to attend.

  • Transfer students with more than 26 credits are encouraged to attend.

  • Students over the age of 25 are welcome to attend, but not required.

  • Shepherd takes very seriously the issues covered in all of the required sessions. The information presented in these sessions will be informative and often conveyed in an enjoyable manner.
