David B. Cole, Jr., of Williamsport, Maryland, has been named dean of students. He will serve as the senior student conduct officer for Shepherd and will work with university police, lead the institution's behavioral intervention initiatives, and serve as a liaison with parents, students, faculty, and staff on student behavior issues.

Cole earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) and a master of arts degree in psychology from Hood College. He has worked at Shepherd for 15 years in various capacities including assistant dean of students, assistant director of physical plant, financial aid counselor, residence life hall director, head women's softball coach, and assistant baseball coach. Cole is also a member of the Shepherd Athletic Hall of Fame. Cole worked at Hagerstown Community College for 13 years as director of student services and student activities coordinator.
