I.
All students, faculty, and staff are responsible for understanding
and complying with the University’s stated academic requirements.
A.
Student grades are to be based solely on academic performance
as measured by the standards set forth in the course syllabus.
Students should feel free to express their thoughts and
opinions in an academic forum without fear of punishment
or retribution.
B.
All academic work must be done by the student to whom it
is assigned, without unauthorized aid of any kind. Instructors,
for their part, will encourage honest effort by exercising
care in planning and supervising academic work. A student
who does not comply with the standard of honesty may be
subject to appropriate penalties imposed
by
the instructor, and even to academic probation, suspension
or dismissal. The policies regarding both academic standing
and academic dishonesty are outlined in the Shepherd
University Catalog.
II.
Students who choose to enroll at Shepherd have the following
academic rights:
A.
The right of access to the Shepherd
University Catalog,
which describes all academic program requirements ( required
courses, total credit requirements, residence requirements,
special program requirements, minimum grade point average
requirements, probation standards, professional standards,
etc.).
B.
The right to a written syllabus containing the academic
requirements of and the instructor’s expectations for each
course in which they are enrolled. The syllabus should contain
information on attendance policies, grading procedures,
course information, along with any special requirements
(field trips, extra costs, etc.), and should be distributed
by the instructor of record.
C.
The right to evaluation and grading standards based upon
academic performance and requirements. If a student feels
the final grade reflects a capricious, arbitrary or prejudiced
evaluation, or reflects discrimination based on ethnicity,
gender, race, life experiences, national origin, disability,
religion, or sexual orientation, the student has the right
to appeal. |
