WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN I COME TO THE COUNSELING CENTER?
- Expect
to be greeted courteously
- Expect
your participation to be voluntary unless your initial
meeting results from a judicial or administrative referral.
- Expect
the staff to make an effort to schedule appointment times
so that waiting is kept to a minimum.
- Expect
the staff to direct you to the resource information or
resource person you request.
- Expect
the counselor to answer your questions about his/her professional
experience, training, certification, approach, and ethical
responsibilities.
- Expect
to be involved in a collaborative effort. You will take
an active role in determining the outcome of your experience.
- Expect
answers to your questions about strategies used and recommendations
made.
- Expect
to use the first meeting to decide if you think the counselor
has the potential to be helpful and trustworthy.
- Expect
the counselor to ask you questions, listen carefully,
and work to understand you.
- Expect
the content of individual and group sessions to be kept
confidential. Your records are available to NO ONE without
your consent. In rare circumstances, like the threat of
imminent danger, information can be communicated without
a release.
