This is a court order designed to protect victims of violence who do not meet the relationship criteria of a Domestic Violence Protection Orders. This order is helpful for victims of a sexual offense (completed or attempted) or stalking/harassment who are not in a relationship with the offender; a stranger or acquaintance.

A PSO is obtained by filing a petition through Magistrate Court. Temporary and final hearings are also heard in Magistrate Court. The duration of the PSO is specified in the order but it cannot last beyond 2 years.

It is important that a copy of any Order of Protection is provided to Shepherd University Police Department so that the university can take an active role in ensuring your safety.
