ADVISEMENT & REGISTRATION - FIRST YEAR STUDENTS

FIRST YEAR STUDENTS

First year students may choose any of the five A&R sessions listed below. All sessions are identical. The decision of which session to choose should be based on family vacation and work schedules. Reservations for each of the sessions are taken in the order that they are received. While we will try to accommodate your first choice of sessions, there is limited space available per session. To ensure complete confidentiality of the materials created specifically for you, please bring your ID with you to A&R. Parents and family members are invited and encouraged to attend A&R.

Why am I required to stay overnight during First Year A&R?

Shepherd University is a residential campus, and as such, it is the philosophy of the institution that students who are engaged in campus life through programs, activities, residence life, or service are more successful in their pursuit of an education than those who simply come to campus for class. Learning takes place both inside and outside of the classroom. Some of our students receive an exemption from the requirement of living on campus because of the proximity of their home to campus (visit Residence Life for more information on the criteria to live off campus). Advisement & Registration may be the only time that a commuting student will be given the opportunity to stay overnight in a residence hall. Additionally, the A&R program runs late into the evening of day one and begins early on day two.  Through A&R, each student will experience a sample of the college experience. (Note: Female students will stay in Shaw and Male students will stay in Thacher)

Is it required to attend sessions on both days of A&R?

Yes, there are mandatory sessions each new student must attend to be able to register for his/her classes
