Residence Life Employment Opportunities

Postal Assistant
Postal Assistants are undergraduate student staff members that assist with the mail delivery for our on campus students.  Postal Assistants work in the main Residence Life Office to help sort, deliver, and re-direct mail, in addition to working in the individual residence halls.  Postal Assistants are responsible for working between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. when the Residence Life is open.  However, we provide flexible schedules to accommodate for class commitments.

Office Assistant
Office Assistants are undergraduate student staff members that assist with the daily operations in Residence Life including, but not limited to: filing, creating documents/fliers, tracking data, answering telephones, assisting persons that enter the main office, and other duties as assigned by Residence Life staff.  Office Assistants are be responsible for working between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. when the Residence Life is open.  However, we provide flexible schedules to accommodate for class commitments.

Hall Security
Hall Security employees are undergraduate student staff members that are integral in supporting the safety and security of our residence halls.  Hall Security personnel implement and enforce the Shepherd University Visitation Policy which includes verifying residents using IDs when entering/exiting the residence halls, signing in guests, and/or notifying other Residence Life staff when the visitation policy is not being adhered to properly.  Hall Security employees are also required to work on designated holidays when buildings are open, in addition to weather related school closings.

Resident Assistant
Resident Assistants (RAs) are undergraduate student staff members that are integral to the University and the Residence Life Office in supporting the mission of the University while building a positive residential community for our students.  RAs typically live and work on a hall of 30-60 residents providing academic, personal, and social support for students within the community. RAs work to develop a community within their hall of fun, respect and accountability. RAs are considered leaders within the hall and are role models on campus. The position is a demanding time commitment but provides excellent opportunities for personal growth in areas of leadership, communication, and time management.

The RA works to provide a safe environment conducive to supporting the educational mission of the University. By making responsible decisions while serving as a campus role model, the RA educates residents in areas of personal responsibility, social justice, and conflict management.

Hall Director
Hall Directors (HDs) are graduate student staff members that are responsible for the daily operations of a residence hall or area, and must be enrolled in the College Student Development and Administration program at Shepherd University.  HDs live and work in a hall of 120-150 residents providing academic, personal, and social support for students and RA staff within the community.  The HD supports the RA in working to provide a safe environment conducive to supporting the educational mission of the University.
