SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University will offer robotics and creative writing as part of its third annual Ram Scholars summer camps for middle school students. The camps will take place July 17-August 4, will run from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and cost $275 per week. They include:
- July 17-21—Nibbles & Scribbles will introduce kids to basic healthy cooking preparation while improving writing skills for high school. Under the direction of Shepherd’s stretch English instructor, Yildiz Nuredinoski, students will use experiences in the kitchen to form themes for writing and will work on improving descriptive writing skills.
- July 17-21 and July 31-August 4—Robotics camp is an introductory experience for children with an interest in the world of robotics. During the week, participants will design, build, and program a robot and begin to formulate an understanding of the coding that drives the machine. If a child is interested in First Lego League, this is the next step.
- July 24-28—Advanced Robotics is for kids who have participated in the introductory robotics camp. This class will give a deeper understanding of the programming and mechanics behind the robot. Students will take more responsibility in creating the coding that drives their machine and discuss the real world applications of robotics beyond games.
