Popodicon – Business Residence of the President
109 Shepherd Grade Road
Shepherdstown, WV 25443
Shepherd University is fortunate to have a beautiful home and spacious grounds as part of its campus. After receiving requests from several individuals about holding weddings and other formal events on campus, Shepherd is offering Popodicon, the loveliest building on campus with a unique setting for social gatherings, for event rentals.
Popodicon, designed by Stuart Edmonds of Winchester, Virginia, was built in 1907, by Henry W. Potts, a civil engineer, and his wife, Eleanor Powell, in colonial Georgian style. The grounds and gardens were originally designed by Oglesby Paul of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, an associate of the famous landscape architect Frederick Olmstead.
The state of West Virginia purchased the estate for Shepherd University, then Shepherd College, in 1964. Popodicon, the traditional home of Shepherd University’s presidents, is now the University President’s business residence.
