SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Department of Political Science is sponsoring a Teach-In titled “Immigration Crisis? A Broader Perspective,” on Tuesday, October 6, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Erma Ora Byrd Hall Auditorium. The event, which is free and open to the public, will cover immigration issues here in the United States and in Europe.
Panelists will include Dr. Max Guirguis, professor of political science, who will take a broad look at the different types of immigration and discuss why immigration is not currently accepted in the U.S.; Dr. Robert Anthony, assistant professor of sociology, who will outline theories of migration and talk about forced migration from rural to urban areas in developing countries; Dr. Aart Holtslag, assistant professor of political science, who will give an international perspective on migration and the crisis in Europe; and Dr. Jacob Stump, assistant professor of political science, who will talk about national identity and how it conflicts with immigration.
