Poetry reading by Temple Cone scheduled for November 17

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Shepherd University Honors Program and Department of English and Modern Languages are sponsoring a poetry reading with Dr. Temple Cone, professor of English at the U.S. Naval Academy, on Thursday, November 17, at 7 p.m. in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Cone will read primarily from his new work “Guzzle” (2016), which is a collection of poems that represents a contemporary American take on the classical Arabic, Persian, and Urdu form of the ghazal. Cone is the author of several other books of poetry, including “That Singing” (2011); “The Broken Meadow,” which received the 2010 Old Seventy Creek Poetry Press Series Prize; and “No Loneliness,” which received the 2009 Future Cycle Poetry Book Prize.
