2009 Chapter News

Graduation Honor Cords will be available for sale at the following times and locations:

   April 19: 2009 Induction Ceremony at the Frank Center - sale at reception following ceremony

   May 1: In the Rams Den from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Last day of Classes)

   May 5: Butcher Center 216 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Final Exam Day)

Phi Kappa Phi does not provide the cords to campus bookstores; each chapter sells the cords directly to members at $10.

Kaler Receives Phi Kappa Phi Award of Excellence
Shepherd University student Amanda Kaler has received the Phi Kappa Phi Award of Excellence and will receive $2,000 toward her graduate school tuition. She plants to attend law school after graduating from Shepherd. Kaler is a senior economics major and history minor from Jefferson, Maryland, and is the daughter of Price and Laura Kaler. She is a 2004 Brunswick High School graduate. While at Shepherd she received the John Glenn Phillips Memorial Economics Scholarship and was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Alpha Theta Pi Epsilon honor societies. Kaler served as Student Government Association senator, a member of the Shepherd Republicans, and a reporter for the Picket campus newspaper. She was also named as a McMurran Scholar, the university's highest award.

Johnson Receives Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant
Shepherd University student Samantha Johnson, Canvas, has received a Phi Kappa Phi study abroad grant to use from July 2008 through June 2009. Johnson is one of 50 scholars nationwide to receive the $1,000 grant and is the first winner from Shepherd. She is a junior biology major in the MedStep program.

President Shipley, 65 Students Among 2008 Initiates
President Suzanne Shipley, faculty members Dr. Sally Brasher and Dr. Clarissa Mathews, alumna Tracy Danzey, and 65 students were initiated into the Shepherd University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi on Sunday, April 6 at the Frank Center Theater. Dr. Michael Austin, immediate past president of Shepherd's PKP chapter, gave the keynote address.
