SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars at Shepherd University inducted six students, six faculty, one staff, and three honorary members into its Theta Epsilon Chapter during a ceremony April 3. Paul Grussendorf, an attorney specializing in asylum and refugee law, was the keynote speaker.
Shepherd President Mary J.C. Hendrix, Tia McMillan, vice chair Shepherd’s Board of Governors, and Bob McMillan, former Board of Governors chair, were made honorary members of the organization.
Student inductees were Rebecca Kamp, a global studies major from Martinsburg; Henry Navarrete Méndez, a computer information sciences student from Chantilly, Virginia; Jacob Neterer, a computer information sciences student from Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; Maria Skowronski, a Master of Arts in Teaching student from Myersville, Maryland; Fadela Belhaj, a Master of Arts in college student development and administration student from Casablanca, Morocco; and Imen Bouhestine, a special nondegree student from Tunis, Tunisia.
Siriki Diabate, a Shepherd alumnus and current employee, was the staff inductee. Faculty who were inducted included Dr. Benjamin Bankhurst, assistant professor of history; Dr. Heidi Dobish, associate professor of psychology; Catherine Makanjoula, clinical nurse educator; Dr. Elizabeth Perego, assistant professor of history; Dr. Laura Renninger, dean, Teaching, Learning, and Instructional Resources, and Dr. Sylvia Shurbutt, professor of English and coordinator of the Appalachian studies program.
