SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Shepherd University Phaze 2 Gallery in the Center for Contemporary Arts is hosting an exhibit of ’90s funk sculptures and paintings from the collection of  John and Patricia Bain Bachner. An opening reception is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, from 4-6 p.m. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will remain on display until October 7.

Evan Boggess, adjunct faculty member and Phaze 2 Gallery director, said the exhibit will include works by Lester Van Winkle, professor emeritus at Virginia Commonwealth University, Mark Bulwinkle, of Oakland California, and other artists.

“The brilliantly crafted works seek to bridge a difficult gap between the rigors of academic discipline and the primal force of Outsider Art,” Boggess said. “Mark your calendars for this remarkable event.”

The Bachners’ also donated four large sculptures to Shepherd, three of which were installed in June outside the library and in front of Shaw Hall.

The Phaze 2 Gallery is open Monday, 1-9 p.m.; Tuesday, noon-4 p.m. and 6-7 p.m.; Wednesday 2-7 p.m.; Thursday, noon-3 p.m. and 6-7 p.m.; and Friday, 6-7 p.m. For more information contact Boggess at eboggess@shepherd.edu.
