Photography and Art Exhibit: Studio 105, 105 South Princess Street. "Banjo Women in West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky," a photography exhibit by Susan and Geoff Eacker, and quilts by Jane Hicks and Cari Norris. Opening is Sunday, September 26, 4:00-6:00 pm. Free and open to the public.

Thursday, September 30

Public Reception: Meet Sharyn McCrumb! 6:30 pm. Entler Hotel, corner of German and Princess Steets.

Literary Showcase: Sharyn McCrumb will read from her ballad novels and will be accompanied by Appalachian writer and musician Betty Smith. After her address, Ms. McCrumb will answer the audience's questions. 8:00 pm, Reynolds Hall.

Book Signing: Immediately following the literary showcase, Ms. McCrumb will be available to sign books and speak to people individually. 9:30 pm, McMurran Hall.

"A Mountain Riddle": A one-woman play about ballad singer and storyteller Jane Hicks Gentry, written and performed by Betty Smith, author of Jane Hicks Gentry: A Singer Among Singers, 12:30-1:30, Reynolds Hall.

"The Threat of Mountaintop Removal in Appalachia": Panel discussion featuring U.S. News and World Report editor, Penny Loeb; Charleston attorney and activist John Taylor; Larry Emerson of Arch Coal; and Mike Robinson of the Office of Surface Mining, 1:00-3:00, Entler Hotel, corner of German and Princess Streets.

"Banjo Women" Lecture/Demonstration: Presented by scholars Susan and Geoff Eacker and banjo players Cari Norris and Diane Jones, 1:00-2:00, O'Hurley's Great Room.

"The Creative Process in Quilt Design": Workshop led by quilter Jane Hicks, 2:00-3:00, O'Hurley's Great Room.

Yodelers Workshop: Led by Bruce Betler of the Helvetia Dancers and Goldenseal's John Lilly, 2:00-3:00, McMurran Hall.

Community Meal: Traditional West Virginia fare served up by Shepherdstown folks, 5:00, King Street (in front of Town Hall). This meal is potluck, so please bring a dish to share.
