Our exciting week concludes with a rousing concert featuring some of the region's top musicians. Once again, Goldenseal editor John Lilly emcees the evening, bringing his own inimitable yodeling, singing, and guitar playing to the stage.

Footnotes
Footnotes in an energetic step dance duo comprised of Jan Scopel and Kim Forry. Each has been choreographing, teaching, and performing clog dance regionally and internationally in the precision dance and individual freestyle dance venues for over 20 years. Pulling from the proud dance foundations of Native American, British Isles, and African American styles, they present an exciting program of traditional and progressive dance rhythms. Both Kim and Jan's styles are heavily influenced by the freestyle flatfooting tradition and the high stepping show performance styles...both of the Asheville, NC region. Jan initially performed in the DC based groups "Sassafrass" and "Footloose" for 12 years and has given solo performances for the past 8 years. Having formal training in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Tap dance, Kim has performed and choreographed for adult as well as childrens theater productions and presented Appalachian Clog dancing with the "Feet First Cloggers" of York, PA.

Poteen
Explore the Irish sound of Appalachia with Poteen(pronounced "poh-CHEEN")! This high-energy band got its start in 1978 under the leadership of legendary Roane County musicians Frank George and his wife Jane. The Geroges tutored the group in old-time and the Celtic traditions in the music of West Vriginia. After travelling to Ireland to expand their understanding of Celtic music, the band began to describe their sound as "Appal-Irish" in recognition of the blending of culture and musical influences that shape their sound. Each of the musicians brings an individual contribution to the band. Dr. Tim Pence leads his share of sets playing fiddle, bouzouki, and cittern; Don Dransfield handles the Irish bag pipes, Highland bag pipes, whistles, guitar, and vocals; Tim Payton plays rhythm guitar and is lead singer; and Destiny plays keyboards and bodhran (pronounced BOW-ron...at least by the bodhran player who did this web page) which is the only frame drum native to Europe. Poteen is a standing favourite at the Vandalia Gathering and the Stonewall Jackson Jubilee as well as across the region.
