Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3, 2009
14th Annual Appalachian Heritage Festival
8:00 p.m.
Frank Center Theater

Don't miss this celebration of mountain culture where young artists carrying on old-time, bluegrass, and blues traditions in Appalachia meet with master artists including a rare performance by legendary Kentucky songwriter/folksinger Jean Ritchie.

Friday, October 2 Concert: Blues artist Jeffrey Scott and Jefferson County native Lars Prillaman's string band The Young Napoleons as well as 2009 Appalachian Heritage Writer-in-Residence Silas House and the winner of Shepherd's West Virginia Fiction Competition.

Saturday, October 3 Concert: Juanita Fireball & the Continental Drifters recreate high-energy 1920s-era live radio performance and Jean Ritchie reminds us why she is known as the "Mother of Folk Music." Recipient of the prestigious National Heritage Fellowship Award, Ritchie has recorded more than 40 albums and her songs including "My Dear Companion," "Black Waters," and "The L&N Don't Stop Here Anymore," have been recorded by Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Flatt and Scruggs, and dozens more.

Both concerts are hosted by award-winning songwriter and musician John Lilly.
