Alzheimer’s Walk

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the Alzheimer’s Association’s largest fundraising and awareness event. Each year thousands of walks are held across the country, including 12 here in West Virginia.   The walk raises money to support the programs and services the Alzheimer’s Association provides for families and caregivers facing the disease, as well as to support the necessary research to find a cure. Every fall Shepherd University Nursing students take part in the Alzheimer’s Association’s Eastern Panhandle Walk in Martinsburg, WV. Pictured below is Dr. Charlotte Anderson with several nursing students who participated in the walk on September 23, 2017.

Relay for Life

Each year, over 4 million people in over 20 countries participate in Relay for Life events. Shepherd University is proud to take part in Relay for Life to help honor cancer survivors, remember those lost, and help raise money to fight a disease that has taken so much. Shepherd University’s Nursing Department created a team to participate in this year’s annual event. At 4pm on April 7, 2017, the event was kicked off with the torch run and ran until 5am with the students taking turns throughout the night walking/running the track. The nursing team was able to raise over $2,100.00!

The Student Nurses Association participated in Shepherd’s 16th annual Shep-or-Treat on October 26, 2016.  An interactive game of “pin the band-aid on Frankenstein’s boo boo” was a total success with the kids!
