White Coat Ceremony

On October 3, 2014, Shepherd University’s department of nursing took part in it’s first White Coat Ceremony. Shepherd University is one of 100 schools across the country, and the only school in West Virginia, chosen to take part in this new initiative. The White Coat Ceremony was designed by The Arnold P. Gold Foundation for physicians and surgeons as a rite of passage at medical schools. The Gold Foundations is teaming with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing to make the White Coat Ceremony a tradition for nursing students as well. Each semester Shepherd’s new nursing students will participate in this initiative where the students will recite an oath, be cloaked in a white coat, and will receive a pin.
