Meanwhile, this quick start page will help you prepare and assure you meet the special requirements of nursing majors as listed in the Shepherd University Catalog. Health Insurance, Health
Data, Imunizations and CPR
Upon entrance into the nursing program a completed Health Requirements Verification
(HRV) is required to be uploaded to the Immunization Tracker. There are areas where
your physician or nurse practitioner must sign the document and only these licensed
professionals are acceptable. A physical examination and immunization verification
are required.

CPR Certification
Department of Nursing Education accepts only American Heart Association Healthcare Provider
course. A current copy (both sides) of your CPR certification is
required to be uploaded to the Tracker by date designated on New Student Checklist.
Criminal Background Check
A fingerprint card will be mailed upon your acceptance into the nursing program. Fingerprinting is
ONLY to be done at Shepherd University Public Safety Department. You may
call campus police at 304-876-5374 to inquire of designated times for
fingerprinting. Print and follow instructions carefully. Submit the completed fingerprint card and criminal background to
the Nursing Office by the required deadline. Do not leave the card at the
Public Safety Office.

Professional Liability
Insurance for Nursing Students
Professional liability insurance is
required prior to you beginning classes. You
may purchase coverage online for approximately $37.00 at
www.nso.com. Premiums vary according to
state of residence. Print out your verification
and upload the form into the Tracker by the required date. This is a
reoccurring annual requirement.
ATI Testing Fee
Nursing students are required to take Assessment Technologies Inc. (ATI) achievement tests while progressing through the nursing program.
This requires a one-time fee for all printed materials and CDs upon being
accepted into the Nursing program. Near the end of the program, ATI comprehensive tests will be administered to assess students' readiness to take the NCLEX. The student is responsible for payment of fees associated with this testing program. Reference New Student Checklist for details

Nursing Student Handbook
Adherence to the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing Education are special requirements of all nursing majors. Hard copy of the Student Handbook
is given to each new student at the nursing assembly. Be prepared and ready for the new semester by looking over this
handbook to find answers to many questions you will have as a new student.
