Rude Mechanicals will perform Greek satire ‘Helen’ July 17-19

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Rude Mechanicals Medieval and Renaissance Players at Shepherd University will perform Euripides’ Greek satire “Helen” July 17-19 at Reynolds Hall. Performances will take place Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. Admission is free to Shepherd University students, $2 for other students and Shepherd faculty and staff, and $5 for the general public.

The cast for the production includes: alumna Caitlin Shambaugh, Paw Paw, as Helen; Alex Hale, English major, Falling Waters, as Teucer, Portress of Theoclymenus, and the Dioscuri Castor; Ashley Hall, elementary education major, as the chorus leader; alumna Aja Bailey, Shenandoah Junction, Sabrina Shacklett, secondary education major, Hedgesville, and Katie Fenley, elementary education major, Martinsburg, as the chorus of captive Greek women; alumna LaShawn Tolson, Hagerstown, Maryland, as Menelaus; Jake Anderson, English major, Bowie, Maryland, as the Dioscuri Pollux and the Greek messenger; Shelby Taylor, English major, Martinsburg, as Theoclymenus; and Ellie Didden, Shepherdstown, as the Egyptian messenger.

Dr. Betty Ellzey, professor of English and Rude Mechanicals director, will direct the play. Other crew members include Caitlin Shambaugh, choreographer; alumnus Sean Milito, Martinsburg, technical director; alumnus Chris Fogle, Martinsburg, assistant technical director; Mike Sandy, English major, Martinsburg, set designer; Maddy Enders, English major, Martinsburg, props manager; Catherine Ellzey, Shepherdstown, costumes; and Sabrina Shacklett, secondary education major, Hedgesville, makeup.
