SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — As part of its arts advocacy and service learning project, the Shepherd University Senior Music Seminar class will present a concert, “Solstice: A Season for Peace,” on Monday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Frank Center’s W.H. Shipley Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public; however freewill donations will be accepted for the Wounded Warrior Project and Team River Runner, organizations that benefit veterans.

Students from the senior seminar class for music majors, which is taught by Dr. Scott Beard, professor of music and dean of graduate studies and continuing education, will perform works from around the world that will include a multitude of instruments, vocal solos, chamber ensembles, and jazz combo. The program will consist of a variety of seasonal and classical music in a plethora of styles. A small reception will follow the concert.

“As a culminating project in the music capstone course (senior seminar), the students were tasked with creating an event that promoted the arts,” Beard said. “Arts advocacy is an important part of being a musician, and the ability to organize and put together concert events is an important career skill.”
