SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Masterworks Chorale will present George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” with full orchestra and soloists on Saturday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m., at St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Charles Town and on Sunday, November 16 at 7 p.m., at the Frank Center Theater.
The production will be presented with full orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Erik Jones and guest conductor Gary Penkala, pastoral associate for liturgy and music at St. James, and will include music from all three sections, ending with “Worthy is the Lamb.”
Featured soloists are sopranos Allyson Bayer, Hedgesville, Emily Reinhardt, Charles Town, Jordan Bushong-Taylor, Myersville, Maryland, Alexandra Rosle, Harleysville, Pennsylvania, and Madeline Zayas, Hagerstown, Maryland; mezzo-soprano Yanira Diaz, Martinsburg; altos Hannah Wardell, Ellicott City, Maryland, Cara Hummel, Dover, Delaware, and Penelope Manousoff Adamstown, Maryland; tenors Patrick O’Grady, Frederick, Maryland, Cullen Byers, Bridgewater, Virginia, and Mark Adelsberger, Frederick, Maryland; and bass/baritones Ross Tamaccio Herndon, Virginia, and Eduardo Rivera, Frederick, Maryland.
The Masterworks Chorale is a vocal ensemble with more than 130 singers comprised of Shepherd University students and members from the community. The group presents two full-length productions every year and appears at Shepherd University’s annual holiday gala concert.
The November 15 concert at St. James is free and donations are accepted. General admission for the November 16 performance at the Frank Center is $20 for the public; $18 for faculty and staff with a valid Rambler ID, and seniors; and $10 for those age 18 and under.
