SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Department of Contemporary Art and Theater will present All 1 Process, a solo exhibition by David R. Modler, assistant professor of art and coordinator of art education at Shepherd, and host an opening reception Monday, January 27 from 5 to 7 p.m., with an artist talk at 5:45 p.m., in the Phaze 2 Gallery on the first floor of the new Center for Contemporary Arts.
The site-responsive exhibition features new and reworked paintings that explore the effects of location on the context of studio practice. The content bids to confront the formal and conceptual boundary issues, multiple layers, and complex patterns that saturate the artist’s everyday life. Dealing with these self-created and imposed boundaries can define one’s space like a map, encompass like a web, and contain like a matrix.
“I see my work as an ever-evolving process, all one process, where each painting and journal volume is a spontaneous document of this daily boundary expanding activity,” Modler said.
The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public. For more information contact Karen Gergely at firstname.lastname@example.org.
